Inside a Historic Home’s Bathroom Renovation

Everyday Homes

Our Colonial Revival home tour continues!

After taking you inside the renovated kitchen of this historic Glen Ellyn home, we’re excited to talk more about the primary bathroom and powder room. To honor the home’s 1920s architecture, we played with wallpaper, mosaic tile, millwork and color.

We also had a small footprint to work with in both rooms and are so proud of how we got creative with the space. We know the whole family will enjoy the classic, quiet elegance of these two bathrooms for years to come.

The primary bathroom is a true reflection of the home’s original era, with a custom hexagonal tile pattern from a historic tile supplier. We also incorporated custom millwork and a wall-mounted bath faucet with exposed polished nickel plumbing to add to the timeless feel.

In the powder room, we installed blue beadboard panels and Morris & Co. wallpaper that makes for such a happy and cheerful space. We took inspiration from vintage tile patterns for the floor, creating a custom design with three different shades of penny tile. We love using penny tile because it’s very cost-effective and has high impact!

Wall-mounting the sink and faucet was also key in this small footprint. It’s these types of details that go a long way!
